AWT accesses numerous sources of weather information utilizing state-of-the-art Oceanic and Atmospheric modeling, sophisticated and very accurate remote sensing instrumentation on board various earth-orbiting satellites, as well as direct surface-based environmental observations.
Ship routing demands an understanding of the complex relation of combining the science of meteorology with the science of naval architecture ship response algorithms. Voyage analysis that defines the exact relationship between the actual weather encountered and the true effect on speed of advance of any specific vessel requires considerable skill and experience. The AWT voyage analysis group is headed by industry renowned scientists in this specialized science and as such, AWT reports are widely used throughout the industry as an accurate and unbiased analysis for speed and consumption claim resolution. Having been used in maritime arbitration in the past, most AWT reports today are used directly as the basis for dispute resolution.
